Product Guidance
What are your vertical blinds made from?
Here at Swift Direct Blinds, we only use the highest-quality materials to provide you with premium window dressings that will look fantastic for years to come. Our collection includes a selection of polyester, recycled fabrics, rigid PVC and PVC vertical blinds. The best material for you will depend on where you plan to install your new blinds. Bathrooms and kitchens, for example, may be better suited to PVC styles as these are moisture-resistant and easy to wipe clean.
Should vertical blinds sit on the windowsill?
Unlike horizontal Roman blinds or roller blinds, vertical blinds shouldn’t rest directly on the windowsill when closed. This is to prevent the bottoms of the blinds from dragging against your paintwork when they are pulled open and closed, which could cause damage to both the blinds and your home’s interior decor. Ideally, vertical blinds should sit between 1 and 3 centimetres above your windowsills or floors. When measuring, take the length and width of the window recess, and we will make a small deduction to ensure your new blinds sit at the correct level.
How do you clean vertical blinds?
Thanks to the downward angle of the slats, vertical blinds don’t collect as much dust as horizontal blinds, making them an easy-clean option. To keep your vertical window blinds in tip-top shape, we recommend wiping them with a clean, damp cloth from top to bottom. If you have vertical blinds made from soft fabrics, avoid using harsh cleaning products, as these could discolour the material.
What is the difference between vertical blinds and Venetian blinds?
The main difference between vertical and Venetian blinds is the placement of the slats. As the name suggests, vertical blinds have vertical slats that run from the top to the bottom of your windows or doors. When pulled open, vertical blinds will bungle together at either the left or right-hand side of your window frame. Venetian blinds have horizontal slats and will bundle together at the top of your window frame when opened.
Measuring & Installation
Can you help me measure my windows for vertical blinds?
To help you measure easily and accurately for your new vertical blinds, our product and interior experts have created straightforward measuring guides to walk you through the process from start to finish. Depending on what types of windows you have, you may need to measure up slightly differently, so be sure to follow the correct how-to guide from our library.
Where can I fit vertical blinds?
Vertical blinds are an excellent choice for anywhere in your home, from bedrooms and bathrooms to kitchens and living rooms. The smooth opening and closing mechanism means vertical blinds are especially effective on larger windows and doors, where horizontal blinds may be too heavy to pull up and down due to the number of slats required. For rooms with higher humidity levels, choose from our collection of waterproof vertical blinds, all of which are specially designed to withstand steamy environments.
